Background

Another blockbuster movie, another tie in game. Movie tie in games have a reputation of falling into one of two categories, bad and very bad. The Incredible Hulk is however a pleasant exception to this rule. While the game will probably not win any awards it is still a fairly competent sandbox action game set in the city of New York and it is fun to play. The games plot is mission based and is a combination of that in the film and a story unique to the game itself. The games plot does not require players to be familiar with the movie for it to make sense, which is “a feature” I have come across in some movie tie in games.

Main Reasons to Buy

The Incredible Hulk game does what you expect a Hulk game to do, offer you lots of opportunities to “smash” things. It is also relatively easy to pick up and play and includes unlockable skins of classic characters from the comics. The developers have also gone to the trouble to have theĀ  voice acting done by the cast of the film with character models being a reasonable likeness to the actors. The graphics and sound in the game are also of a reasonable quality.

Main Reasons to Avoid

The game does not really have that much depth to the game and it can become repetitive after a while. In addition some of the skills and character skins you unlock while playing really should have been unlocked from the start

My Recommendation

CONSIDER – 6/10

The Incredible Hulk is not the best game ever made but it can be fun to play if you fancy occasional stints of destroying New York. It also offers enough to justify its existence outside of the movie it is based on.

The Incredible Hulk is sadly worthy of being played by Shamertag and the reason this time is that there are two achievements that are linked to playing the Iron Man game. While these are not unachievable without an Iron Man game save on the same profile (at least on the patched version) they are a lot easier with it. This therefore makes The Incredible Hulk Shamertag worthy. While I have no problem with unlockables and bonus items being linked to playing other games, I am of the view that achievements should not be overly affected by whether or not you have played another game especially one not directly related to the title you are playing.
