Background
Cyber Troopers Virtual On Oratorio Tangram is a port of a 10 year old arcade/dreamcast game that is essentially a fighting game using giant robots.
Game Modes
There are 2 single player game modes, arcade and score attack. Arcade is the standard game and involves fighting through several one on one battles until you face the final boss. In arcade you have infinite lives and if you die you restart on the same level you died on. Score attack in contrast you have a single life and the aim is to get through as many levels as possible before you die. There is also a 2 player multiplayer Versus mode, that plays like the single player game except it is a single battle.
Technical Stuff
I thought that the graphics were nothing special, and looked like they came from a 10 year old arcade game, the sound and music was of a reasonable quality and suited the style of game but was not particularly memorable. When I could get into a multiplayer game, I found that it was lag free, I did sometimes have to try multiple times to find a game and there was no option to set up a lobby (at least in Ranked) for people to find you.
Difficulty/Achievements
The game at least in terms of achievements is easy as I got 180/200 within a couple of hours of playing the game and the only one that will cause significant trouble while people are playing Ranked multiplayer is to defeat Ajim as you need to alter your play style to make him appear. Likewise the multiplayer achievements are simple as they are to play 1 and 10 Ranked matches and you do not need to win any, to get the achievement as my record was 1 win and 9 defeats.
Positives
- Easy to play
- Lag Free Multiplayer
Negatives
- Too Short
- Too Expensive
- Dated Graphics
My Recommendation
Avoid – 5/10
I found that the game was too short and it felt like minimal effort had gone into updating the game for XBLA. While this game will probably appeal to fans of fighting games and the original Virtual On. I did not think that the XBLA version of Virtual On was anything special and was overpriced for what is on offer.
Shamertag worthy due to the price and the poor rating.
