While 43 million kills seemed a daunting target, dedicated Xbox 360 owners reached the target in 4 days. This then unlocked the new air superiority game mode on the Coral Sea Map. A big shout out goes to jkasapi who according to EA registered the 43 millionth kill, the only questions left are how long will it take PS3 owners to obtain the same feat (they are currently just under 23 million kills), and will EA do something special if the kill total ever reaches 1943 million?

My Impressions of Coral Sea
After finding out it had unlocked whilst I was playing the game, I immediately gave Coral Sea a try. The first thing to note is that it is a completely separate game mode and is selected from “Play Air Superiority” in the main menu. When you initially spawn you are on 1 of 2 friendly aircraft carriers and then have to attempt to board 1 of 2 free planes. At the start of the game there is the standard mad rush, and the aircraft respawn fairly rapidly.
When in flight you are in a mass dogfight against planes from the opposing carrier and the “central corridor” is the equivalent to the base flag in the standard game and holding it gives a side air superiority. As in the normal conquest mode the winner of the round is decided on who depletes the opposing forces “points” first, with an advantage being gained if your side currently has air superiority.
While for the most part there are no problems with Air superiority, the respawning of planes needs tweaking, since you can often have around 4 people respawn on one of the friendly carriers only for there to be no planes and there to be 2ircraft available on the other friendly carrier but no players present. Given this I think it may be necessary to change the plane respawn rate so that each carrier always has 2 planes on it regardless.
Despite this issue, Coral Sea is a good addition to Battlefield 1943, which was already a superb game
