My Impressions

KrissX is a simple yet surprisingly enjoyable Word Puzzle game. The puzzles typically take the from of jumbled up crosswords and it is up to you to unjumble each word within the time limit, collecting badges and tokens along the way. There are also short one word puzzles and ones where you have several words atop of each other that need to be sorted out.

The main game mode is “quest mode” of which there are over 50 levels, and as you play through Quest Mode you will get to unlock new modes and special puzzles based around themes like animals and geography. Thankfully if you are competent at this type of game the modes do not take too long to unlock and all modes and puzzles should be unlocked after playing for a few hours. The majority of the achievements in the game are also quite straight forward to obtain, with only the collect all badges achievement likely to cause trouble due to the requirements for some badges being unclear or unknown.

In terms of the games style I found the game slightly too “kidified” for my taste as you have to endure an annoying owl in the bottom corner of the screen and a childlike voice saying “new badges” everytime you collect some which after a while can get quite tiresome. In terms of the difficulty of the puzzles, while the game starts off with very simple puzzles the difficulty gradually increases and you may have to start resorting to guess work to find the word rather than prior knowledge.

If you enjoy word puzzles then it is well worth downloading the Trial Version to see what you think, though it may be worth holding off on a purchase to see if it becomes a deal of the week at some point in the future.

My Recommendation

Consider

While not the most awe inspiring game available for XBLA, KrissX is an enjoyable Word Puzzle game though the games style does make it look pitched at a younger audience though it could just be going for a “Peggle-ish feel”.
